Career Day

Chair:  Robyn Zimmerman

Rotary Career Day
will be held in March 2012.  This event pairs high school students with Rotary volunteer mentors in the career field of the students' choice for a half-day shadowing program.  The students are juniors or seniors selected by their counselors from participating schools: Greenville High, Carolina High, J.L. Mann High, Southside High International Baccalaureate program, Wade Hampton High, Berea High, and Greenville Technical Charter High School.  The event providesthe students a unique opportunity to learn about a career interest in a "hands-on" manner, and provides Rotarians an opportunity to fulfill their commitment to Vocational Service -- one of the four areas of service in Rotary -- in a meaningful way.

When you are a host, everyone benefits:

  • You: you'll have a chance to show an eager learner what's great about your career and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you positively influenced a young future Rotarian
  • The student: You'll help each one understand the importance of education and the value education plays in one's career
  • Our Club: You'll demonstrate to the students, their parents, teachers, counselors, friends, and our community in general how we are engaged in supporting education in a real way
  • Greenville County Schools: Most people I've met who work in our public school system do so because they love our young people. When you're a Rotary Career Day Host, you're helping the people they love and you're acknowledging the value of their contribution to our community.
